By examining feedback and testing the two models, I’m still unsure about how Zen5 and Zen6 compare to Zen4 and Zen12 in terms of performance. The 9600X lacks a cooler, which affects its overall price relative to the 7900 that includes one. If you’re not focused on gaming, it might depend more on your specific needs.

You have a low interest in gaming, so your typical workload is quite minimal.

It's hard to directly compare a 6-core processor to a 12-core one without specific use cases. Think of it like comparing a Civic to an F-150—simply knowing your needs is key. A 9600X might suit you better if that's what you're aiming for.

Your pricing in this area seems a bit unusual, but regardless, if you're curious about whether a 9600X can outperform a 7900 in multithreading—despite having only half the cores—the short answer is no (they’re not even close). We’d need more information about your specific tasks to offer better guidance, as requested by Hinjima.

I’m uncertain about the workload or whether a 12-core CPU is necessary. A 6-core CPU like the 9600X seems sufficient for an AM5 build, but I’m curious if investing in an 8 or 12-core CPU now makes sense for future needs. Also, should I opt for a Zen5 instead of a Zen4?

It’s unclear what you need the PC for, honestly. Should I choose a Honda Civic or a Ford Explorer? Just a heads up, we don’t try to anticipate the future or your specific requirements—we focus on what works now. Also, having six core CPUs is more than enough for most users since the 8700K era. Asking us to guess the future without any past or current context isn’t very practical.

I’m focusing on current trends rather than forecasting. For a build lasting five to ten years, a newer setup would be preferable over older models. While a slower clock speed like 9600X might work in a pinch, it’s better to avoid technologies that are already outdated. Perhaps considering more affordable yet reliable options would be a smarter approach.

Yes, since costs differ and your budget hasn't been mentioned yet. If you're curious about my preferences, I can share what I'd choose. However, we need to clarify what you're looking for. For now, if you were purchasing now, a utility machine outside of gaming would be the 9700X. It had excellent performance overall. But your situation is unique—considering your priorities and lifestyle, the 9700X with 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, and similar specs would suit you better.

I’d try the 9600X over 7900. Everyone claims 6 cores are nearly gone for about ten years. My 5600X works just okay for games. A 9700X would be even better.
