Hey guys, long time fan, first time on the forums. I recently build a new rig for myself, mainly CSGO (That is almost exclusively the only game i play, and thats why i picked this hardware) - I have been playing with some overclocking in the past, but i recently decided to "really" get into it, with this new build. SO... MSI MPG Gaming Plus z390 i5 9600kf (Cooled with Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4) GTX 1060 OC version 16GB DDR4 3200MHz ram (XMP on) I got my cpu clocked at 4.8 with 1.315 V Core. Im getting a 1185 score in Cinebench R15 with temps maxing out at 71 celsius. In CSGO's FPS stress test i get 416 fps, with max temps at 58. My idle temps is around 35-40 (which i think i pretty high?) (I crashed at 4.8 with 1.310, and at 4.9 with 1.350) From what i can find on other forums and what not, im not impressed with my results, compared to what others have gotten out of these chips. Does anyone have an idea whats next for me to try? Any suggestions? That being said, i cant complain about the performance, i mean CSGO is not the most advanced thing to throw at it, i just feel like i could (ab)use this system some more? Thoughts?

If the available voltage is limited, it's likely correct. The motherboard uses a 6+2 phase design, so exceeding 1.35 isn't always recommended. You might start at 1.35 and test further.

You're correct, the setup involves a 6+2 configuration. It's clear that exceeding 1.350 in the bios triggers a warning, which makes sense. Using AUTO on voltage helps push it beyond that threshold without manual adjustment.

The voltage value you configure appears in BIOS or the operating system during a stress test. It's a 4-phase VRM for CPU cores. MSI placed the integrated GPU and SA/IO VRMs together in one area, giving a more impressive display than it truly is.

My setup features an "11 phase" configuration, which translates to 4 plus 3 units, and it performs reliably at around 1.4 volts for more than two years. I don't need to be concerned about power supply if your case setup is correct.

What is the VRM temperature during a maximum stress test? Voltage-wise, anything below 1.4 volts is considered safe for the CPU. The safe voltage for the motherboard varies by model, but if your VRM stays under 80°C, it should be fine. Have you tweaked the LLC settings? You might achieve stable 4.9GHz at 1.35V with a more aggressive LLC configuration. I consider this safe as the typical voltage range expected to be secure. Overclocking always carries risks, so there are no absolute guarantees. Personally, I've maintained around 1.38V for nearly three years without issues—this applies to a 6-core, non-hyperthreaded processor. For stability, aim for temperatures that stay within acceptable limits.

NGL shows 1.315V for 4.8 which seems unusual. I'm testing 4.7 at 1.25V with a -0.035 offset.
