Hi,
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core OEM/Tray Processor
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory
Video Card: Asus PRIME OC Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB Video Card
Power Supply: be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
I’m experiencing an issue with this new setup. The system starts up normally on the iGPU, but no display appears when the RX 9070 XT is installed. Both RX 9070 XT units show identical behavior (the first was thought to be dead, replacement identical). BIOS has been updated, multiple display cables and GPU ports have been tested.
The GPU is powered through two PCIe cables — one with a daisy-chained pair of 6+2 connectors and another with a single 6+2 connector.
I’ve tried the following steps:
- Updated BIOS to the latest version (2026-01-21).
- Changed PCIe generation settings to gen 4 and 3.
- Verified that the boot setting is enabled via UEFI, not CSM.
- Disconnected the daisy chain; a red light appeared on the GPU.
- Confirmed proper GPU installation and connected the monitor to the correct source (HDMI/DP).
- Used the GPU’s ports.
Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated! I’m feeling quite frustrated, and I’m only considering that this GPU might need three separate 6+2 connectors instead of a daisy chain. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had the chance to test it.

Check that both 8-pin and 24-pin power connectors are securely fastened on the motherboard and PSU.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
If you're using a PCIe riser cable or adapter, consider testing your system without it to check if the problem continues.
You might attempt to place the GPU into the lower PCIe slots and observe whether the issue remains.
Regarding the PSU connectors, it's recommended to obtain another reliable PSU—either borrow one or purchase a higher-wattage unit with additional PCIe ports if possible.
If this is your GPU, such as the ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon RX 9070 XT OC Edition with 16GB GDDR6 featuring three axial-tech fans for efficient cooling, you can find more details at www.asus.com.
Try selecting the Q profile, which typically offers quieter operation and lower power consumption.

I confirmed the 24 pin on the motherboard was securely fastened, then examined the PSU side. On inspecting the PSU side, I found a 20-pin cable with an 8-pin pigtail hanging off it. Plugging this in worked!

When placing the cables and the PSU correctly, I didn’t notice the issue initially. However, upon further checking, it was concealed within the tight space at the bottom of the case.

Thank you all for your prompt response.
