I recently completed a userbenchmark and discovered my CPU is significantly underperforming, ranking in the 4th percentile. This wasn’t unexpected since I’ve noticed reduced gaming performance despite having specs that seem adequate. I re-ran the test with MSI afterburner enabled to check for thermal throttling, but temperatures stayed at 54°C—so no cooling issue was detected. Notably, the CPU never exceeded its base clock speed of 3.6GHz on any core. Power usage peaked at 65W, which is much lower than expected (typically around 150W). I haven’t overclocked either the CPU or GPU, and my BIOS settings appear correct except for XMP being enabled for RAM. All BIOS configurations were verified. Windows power settings are set to maximum. Anyone have insights on what might be limiting performance or power delivery? I’m considering a PSU upgrade but want to explore other possibilities first. Please feel free to ask questions or share any tips.

Pc specs: I9-9900k, Asus Prime Z390-A, RTX 3080 Ti, Samsung 970 EVO (4x8GB, 3200MHz), Corsair RAM, Evga 750W, 80Gold PSU.

Edit: After a suggestion on my Reddit post, I ran a CPU-Z stress test which showed clock speeds around 3600MHz and power consumption at just 55W.

Check each power connector to ensure it is securely connected to the PSU.

With the machine running, everything appears properly installed. Once I finish work, I’ll shut it down and reconnect to check.

The latest bios update proved to be the answer. It's easy to miss straightforward fixes sometimes.
