8700k Voltages @ 5 Ghz
8700k Voltages @ 5 Ghz
So I've finally managed to experiment with overclocking without using any automated tools. I followed a guide that suggested starting the voltages at 1.28 and stopping before reaching 1.35v. When the processor clocks at 5 ghz, the voltages have been around 1.4 to 1.46v. Is this typical? Should I be concerned about it being too high? Do I need to try lowering it?
1.35v works best for the 8700k at 5ghz. Begin there, perform stress tests, then gradually adjust the voltage until it stabilizes.
It seems the CPU voltage is currently set to auto. Switch it to manual and input the desired voltage. 1.46v falls into a risky range; monitor CPU temperatures closely as well. Excessively high temps are also problematic. Consider doing more research before proceeding.

You should look into this more before proceeding. My current readings are stable: idle at 5GHz, under 30°C; at 80% load, around 51°C, and at full load it stays below 76°C. I noticed some discussions about whether 1.4V is safe or not.
1.35v is typically the optimal setting for the 8700k at 5ghz. Begin there, perform stress tests, and gradually adjust the voltage until stability is achieved.
