I’d still choose 9700x. It’s more than a step up from 8700k, and it performs better overall. There are only a few situations where 7600x3d might shine in a real way. Still, 7600x3d would remain an improvement.

It's worth noting how exclusive the 7600X3D is—its rarity adds to its appeal. That sense of exclusivity is a big draw for players. I also have the 5600X3D. I'm leaning toward the 9700X as well.

There is something to be said about the cool factor. Don't know if it will hold its value as well, but can't say it won't, and it does have a $30 lead already. The more I think about it, if the system is used almost exclusively for gaming, even for those with somewhat more CPU intensive loads, it is hard to beat. I think the motherboard on the 7600x3d may be slightly better also.

It's best to purchase an AM5 AMD CPU instead of Intel. Check techpowerup reviews for real performance numbers at your intended display resolution. For 4K gaming, a 14900K felt too powerful; a 13600K would have offered similar results with less strain, or you could have chosen a 7950X/X3D back then.

For gaming, choosing a 7950X3D isn't necessary. The 14900K might be too much power, so consider a 7950X3D instead.

Just turned off one CCD, but it still has a very costly 7800x3d

I didn’t note in the modded version that I use all 32 threads. My main concern with the 14900K is how power-hungry it is and how hard it is to keep it cool unless I turn off half or more of my cores. Right now I have a 0.02 undervoltage, a contact frame, hyperthreading disabled, and a 360mm AI-O. It hits peak temperatures around 103°C. Without all four of these adjustments, it climbs to about 107°C. Even the package max temperature isn’t great, which is worrying.

Available, yes. Check 9900k (best offer). The 8700k should also handle it.

He’s still got some serious power, I’m still running an i7 8700 for my gaming setup. It performs well as long as the budget isn’t a problem—it’s not worth upgrading.
