8700k OC'd up to 5 GHz with temperature spikes
I just finished assembling this build and am quite pleased with its performance, but I’ve been experiencing CPU spikes ranging from 55c to 65c when using Chrome. I saw these spikes while watching a YouTube video. My temperatures would regularly jump every four seconds, which caused the fans to speed up and then slow down. This is really bothersome. When idle, my temps stay steady at 30c.
Hardware: Cooler – EVGA CLC240, Mobo – ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E
I’m not sure if this is typical, but I haven’t found any discussions about this problem and would like to know if there’s a way to prevent it.
Thank you for reading.
Darquedean, Read Section 13, Note 1: Intel Temperature Guide - Experiment with various fan curves for thermal thresholds, RPM and time delay settings in BIOS. A mix of these adjustments can resolve the issue, so take some time to explore the options.
