You can operate the additional unit if you have the proper cable. Otherwise, it won’t be necessary unless you use liquid nitrogen for overclocking. An 8-pin connector provides 384W, which is sufficient for this task.

You don’t require the additional cable—it’s just for extra voltage when dealing with special setups. The 4+4 configuration will function perfectly on its own.
