Directly 9800x3d performs better. For lasting use, current consoles offer around 12 threads, making 9800x3d sufficient with its 16. Since you're just starting to edit, focus on gaming and pick the 9800x3d or 7800x3d that's more affordable.

I'm here to discuss and explore ideas further with you. What would you like to talk about?

For a gaming CPU, choose 8 cores. If you intend to handle heavy video editing, opt for a 16-core processor instead of a 12-core one.

Well then possibly the 9900x3d could be the answer, though it will have two groups of six cores. Usually the multiple CCDs (those sets found in Ryzen XPU chips) work a bit less efficiently than a single CCD chip like the 9800x3d. Still, the 9800x3d remains solid for video editing. The 9900x is quicker, but unless every second matters and brings profit, it doesn’t stand out much.

Check the techpowerup ratings for the 9900X and 9800X3D. Unless you're running high-end 1080p at 240Hz games, the 9900X will perform well and offer solid performance. The 9800X3D is considered a top choice for gaming only CPUs. According to what I've heard, the X3D isn't great for productivity tasks, and extra cores usually outperform it in software like Adobe or Blender.
