8 GB plus 32 GB of RAM in the 7730U model?
Hi, I haven't been keeping up with the RAM game much lately, so I'm not sure how modern systems perform on different memory modules. BACKSTORY: I'm planning to buy a new laptop soon and need to purchase it locally, which limits my options. I'm looking for a 2-in-1 with a solid display—ideally 90Hz or higher, 16:10 ratio, an i7 or R7 processor, a quality keyboard, and ample RAM. Most models I can find come with 16GB, while 32GB sticks are mostly found on the more expensive premium models. QUESTION: I've noticed some Asus laptops still have just one SODIMM slot, like the ASUS VivoBook S14 Flip. Now they claim it includes 8GB soldered plus another 8GB in the SODIMM, but I'm unsure why they restrict this. I've also seen people install 16GB without issues. According to the specs on their site, combining 8GB and 32GB would work in dual-channel (8 + 8), and 24GB could run flexibly. I'm curious about the performance impact of such a setup. For DDR5 setups, all components are soldered, but DDR4 options are readily available with a simple SODIMM setup. DDR5 performance, unless employing CAMM2 or soldered packages, typically stays around 5200-5600 without compromising stability or causing timing issues.
