I was bored on eBay and spotted a seller offering delidded 7980xe's without the IHS for $250. Later, I found an ASRock x299 Extreme4 for $80. I already own a Kracken X63 280mm AIO for cooling, and I think I have the x299 standoffs somewhere nearby. The CPU and motherboard are expected to arrive on Thursday. The main issue is that I don’t have a direct die frame or copper IHS for the CPU, both of which cost around $30 or more. Anyone got some DIY ideas to make this work? It doesn’t need to look fancy—just functional.
