I already have a custom system for a few years. I haven't overclocked before, but I've looked at many forums and videos. My build includes: 78lmt-usb3 rev 5.0, FX8320 3.5ghz stock, 750w psu, Nvidia 750ti, 6 120mm fans, 16gb ram, 2tb firecuda ssd. I've been wanting to try overclocking the H100i for the 8320. I've heard some crazy speeds from various boards, but I was curious if this cooler could reach up to 4.7. Most seem to stick with the Evo212, so I decided to check before jumping in blindly.

The issue is that the voltage regulators on the motherboard will overheat. An AIO cooler such as the H100 doesn't move air around the CPU socket, causing the VRMs to overheat. This isn't a motherboard designed for overclocking—it only has 4+1 phase power regulation. I wouldn't expect to achieve 4.0 on that board.
The FX series of CPUs should shut down quietly. Save your investment for a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Opt for a model with an integrated cooler and avoid the H100.

The issue will be that the voltage regulators on the motherboard will overheat. An AIO cooler like the H100 doesn't move any air around the CPU socket, causing the VRMs to overheat. This isn't a board designed for overclocking—it only has 4+1 phase power regulation. I wouldn't expect to reach 4.0 on that board.

The FX line of CPUs needs to run quietly. Save your budget for a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Opt for one with an included cooler and skip the H100.

Thanks for the return and advice. I have two side panel fans as intakes, blowing air onto the board to help. The rear has an exhaust fan plus two up top. I appreciate the help. I'll save up for another rig until then. I'll try to get 4.0 on it, though—it feels a bit awkward spending money on the H100i, but it looks good. I'll keep testing until I can upgrade to an ATX. I just wish I knew which BIOS settings to disable safely to reach 4.0 on this one. It's rev 5.0. Apparently rev 6.0 is more common for overclocking. Any thoughts on the ASRock 970m Pro3?
