7800X3D/4080 S, poor performance with frequent lows across several titles...
I completed constructing my new setup using a 7800x3d and 4080S. While achieving FPS in games like Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk is satisfactory, the minor dips are quite bothersome—they disrupt the smooth experience. In Cyberpunk, without limiting FPS, I reached around 90 FPS on RT Ultra, but the 1% drops remained near 45 FPS. Capping at 60 FPS didn’t improve the situation, keeping the stuttering effect. In Witcher 3, the problem persists even with a capped 60 FPS, resulting in 30-45 FPS and a choppy feel. I’m unsure what adjustments to make to fix this issue.
Have you saved the chipset driver? Did you adjust the PBO Core offset settings? Is EXPO/XMP activated?
EXPO is active and operating at 6000 MHz. The chipset driver was installed via Gigabyte Control Center, along with other board drivers. No PBO or additional settings were activated.
I'll check my bios, AMD overclocking settings, Precision Boost overdrive, and negative offset of -25. Make sure your fan speed is sufficient if you're not using Windows Fan Control. Also verify the latest driver since "Control Centers" can be outdated by several months. Are you using MSI Afterburner or another tool to track frame dips?
I completed a full system reset. I downloaded and installed the AMD chipset drivers from their website. Restored the BIOS to its original settings, turned on EXPO and adjusted PBO to -25. Playing Witcher 3 on RT Ultra right now shows around 67-70 FPS with minor drops of 35-50 as noted in the Nvidia overlay. Rivatuner isn’t showing those lows, so I’m using Nvidia instead. It still feels a bit choppy. What further steps could help?
