Which motherboard model are you using? Can you confirm if your existing one can support the 14700K, or is the VRM insufficient?
I believe all the benchmarks indicate the 7800X3D performs better in games. However, since you're already on an Intel platform, it would be more cost-effective and simpler to just upgrade your CPU within your existing system. Otherwise, you'd need to purchase a new motherboard and possibly RAM (depending on compatibility with AMD) to match the 7800X3D's capabilities.

The B660M Mortar offers a reasonable VRM setup. During Hardware Unboxed’s testing, it peaked at 87°C when paired with an i9 12900K after an hour of Cinebench loops. This level isn’t sufficient for serious overclocking, yet the board itself prevents overclocking. It seems capable of handling an i7 14700K, particularly if you avoid heavy all-core tasks. The DDR4 memory may slightly impact gaming performance, but opting for a new motherboard and CPU would save money compared to upgrading to DDR5 and a different platform. If you prefer a gaming-focused build, the R7 7800X3D would be a better choice due to its higher performance, lower power draw, and easier cooling.
A budget Z790 board such as the Gigabyte Aorus Elite works well enough. You’d need DDR5 support. The 14700K and 7800X3D are both high-performance chips for gaming, but go with Intel since AMD often has more technical problems—like memory issues, limited overclocking options, a slow desktop interface, etc.
Get a 13600k or similar, it covers gaming and streaming needs without requiring extra power since everything runs on the GPU.
