Hello everyone once more. First of all, thank you all for your constant support and help. It’s a great community. I was thinking about purchasing a 7800x3d during this November sale. I planned to get the B650 M-series Tomahawk paired with the 7800x3d, but I found out today that AMD released the 9000x3d on November 7. Now I’m unsure what to do because the 7800x3d is so expensive right now... its price feels unreal compared to a few months ago. I’m considering the 9800x3d instead, but there’s a problem: the 7800x3d is widely tested, and we already know how much memory and RAM it needs for optimal performance. With the 9800x3d, things get confusing. I’m completely lost. If I see an offer now—B650, X670, X670E (wild prices)…—what should I buy? RAM, 6000 vs 8000... a lot of confusion. Is the B650 M-series Tomahawk a suitable choice for the new 9000x3d lineup? These questions are tough because nobody has tested or shared anything yet. @Hinjima I really need your advice and guidance on what to get—CPU, memory, RAM... everything new. Thanks all, and I hope the 9800x3d lives up to the hype, maybe even better than the 7800x3d (they say it’s around 20% faster)?

This collection could be useful. The key change here is USB4, as X870 uses B650E and X870E includes USB4. Maybe, but we're unsure about any old issues these boards might have with newer X3D models. Probably not worth it at these prices, especially since the 9700X is getting discounts and the 7700/7700X has big price drops in some areas. I’m not sure if the X3D CPUs will change much regarding their low sensitivity to memory speed, so you should be okay with any setup. Keep an eye on the memory scaling updates, though—based on what I know, 6000-6400 remains the best balance of performance and cost for these chips.

The DDR5 8000 offers only minimal gains compared to DDR5 6000 CL30 on non-X3D chips, and the main aim with X3D technology is to downplay memory speed importance, so the actual boost will be limited. Zen 4 and Zen 5 are quite alike, meaning a suitable motherboard works well for both. A B650 tomahawk remains a solid choice, though you might find cheaper alternatives like B650M-HDV/M.2 or B650 Eagle sufficient. A motherboard functions mainly as a connector, so the key considerations are: adequate VRM power for your top CPU, compatibility with 7800X3D and 9950X in AM5 builds, necessary ports and features (USB, PCIe, SATA), BIOS support for advanced needs, and any known problems from reviews. Check user feedback to see if the board has any quirks that could affect you. Aesthetics matter less unless you're designing a display-focused setup; otherwise, prioritize performance and value. When choosing, aim for the most affordable option that meets all four criteria, as higher-end boards rarely provide significant advantages beyond budget. Regarding 7800X3D versus 9800X3D, some reports suggest a noticeable performance increase, though it’s unlikely to be substantial outside of the 4090 and faster ranges. Once the 9800X3D comes out, pick the cheaper model if it’s within roughly $20 of the 7800X3D.

7800x3D is no longer offered. It isn't accessible through major US retailers, except possibly via third-party sellers, and even then the price jumps back up significantly—far exceeding its original MSRP. Many purchased it for around $350. In comparison, the 9800x3D remains the better choice. Motherboards still don’t justify the cost unless you need advanced features like USB4, Wi-Fi 7, or 5GbE on the x870/e models. For most users, the B650 series remains the standard. All boards support BIOS flashback, making it easy to update firmware before installing a CPU. The HUB has released three videos summarizing the current B650 options, highlighting the best value in each price range. The first video is outdated and contains errors due to recent BIOS updates.

With the 24h2 updates it's 9800x3d all the way, but I was hoping for around 550-600USD. I’d go for a Cl30 6000 kit and try to get it near 6400 as long as it stays stable. Regarding the motherboard, check out the HUB video—personally, I’m looking at the Tomahawk and the Taichi.

They won’t exceed the 9800x3d price above $499. Remember, AMD is concentrating on gaining market share. They didn’t mention CPUs, so don’t mix up the topics—they’re only focusing on GPU performance. I bet it’ll be around $449 for Christmas or less. A bundle between $599 and $649 at Microcenter No 8 core CPU could drop to $600, aside from some odd market moves.

It's great to hear the support! Thanks for the quick answers. @Tetras @RONOTHAN## @GuiltySpark_ @xg32 everyone clarified everything. I'll stay patient and review the videos and channel. For the MB, I don't need expensive gear—I just want solid VRM so I can skip the MB (like the 7800x3d) in a few years and focus on many USBs. My priority is now the Tomahawk and Taichi Lite, but I'll keep learning. The 7800x3d is powerful, but I don't want to pay €470 for it when many bought it for €350. Let's check what AMD has done with these new x3ds. Thanks all!

I received plenty of assistance from others before I could respond. In short, yes—the B650 Msi tomahawk can easily support the 9800X3D. I’m considering using my own ASUS TUF B650 PLUS with a 9800X3D as well.

The 7800X3D is already priced at a minimum of 480 USD. The 9800X3D will offer premium pricing initially, likely dropping before Christmas. Currently there’s little competition in the gaming sector, so the only top choice will be the 9800X3D. A reasonable estimate is around 500 USD by 2025. Regarding the 7800X3D, it’s expected to align with Zen 3 pricing, with models like the 7600X3D or 7700X3D providing adequate performance at a significantly lower cost.

Keep in mind, it's about performance rather than power consumption. Avoid obsessing over "needing the best VRMs" to run a 7800x3D chip. It's not the 7950x/9950x that really demands much (for Ryzen) or energy. Most A620 boards should handle a 7800x3D without trouble. Just for context, the boards discussed in the HUB video are all fine.
