Rig: 6700k with a 4.6 rating, 1080ti, TridentZ RGB at 3200 (rated for 3600), 650w gold Corsair CPU, etc... I gifted a friend a 3600 for Christmas since his 1600 had some odd problems (probably a pin issue or bent wire). It seems to feel much better than my 6700k after all the BIOS and microcode updates. Only compared in 1080p so far, but I really wish I could check 1440p at 144hz. After watching GN's new video, it really stands out. Anyone think upgrading is the right move?

i7-6700k remains suitable for gaming, though it falls short in multi-core tasks compared to the 3600. It’s still functional but gaming performance is limited. Your current setup is fine, though upgrading might be worth considering if you’re ready for better efficiency. The 6700k retains strong gaming speed, potentially matching or exceeding the 3600 in that area.

Clock speed counts as one factor when IPCs match, but AMD leads now even in the 9 series and clearly surpasses the 6 series.

I upgraded from i7 4770k 4.6GHz to R9 3900X. Also using 1080ti and 1440p 165Hz. Big difference in every game. The 4770k could still push me above 100FPS in almost every game and it was definitely still a capable CPU for gaming but it just can't hold candle to the 3900X. Minimum FPS have improved significantly and the gaming experience is much more smoother / fluid The i7 struggled in some games and I've seen 100% CPU usage in games like Apex Legends or BF1 and BF5 while the GPU maxed out at around 70% to 80% on 1440p.

At 1440p I question if the upgrade is worthwhile. I’d likely hold off another generation or two before upgrading. I believe 8 cores will become essential once the next-gen consoles launch.
