Hi, your setup looks promising. The HP Prodesk 600 G4 SFF supports up to 64 GB RAM across four slots, with each slot holding up to 16 GB of standard memory or optionally 2x32 GB plus Intel Optane. It should work well for your i7 8700 and Optane configuration.

There is a good chance that 32 GB dimms are not supported, for 64GB I would say go for 4x16 in this system As for Optane, this system does support Optane m.2 storage drives, but because you are talking about memory I have a suspicion that you are thinking about Optane dimms, they are not supported on this platform

Optane functions as a NVMe storage device in this setup and other consumer devices, but it cannot serve as RAM. It behaves like any standard NVMe disk when installed, except for compatibility with Intel's caching software. You may be able to achieve 128GB using 32GB partitions since systems often allow more than the advertised amount due to newer dims being introduced and specifications not always updated.

Officially thr 8700 has a cap of 128gb. As the memory controller is on the cpu there is technically no reason that 32gb sticks are forbidden from use. As well as having 4 of them. As for optane thats only in certain enterprise systems. Consumer systems its storage only basically. Any reason for so much ram btw?

The system still uses a consumer with an 8700 and Q370 chipset. Optane DIMMs need a Xeon Scalable processor. The ProDesk can handle Optane M.2 modules but not Optane DIMMs.

It remains a consumer-focused site. Prodesk is merely another brand using a modified h370 chipset. You might try Optane as a cache if HP permits—it can work with your system, though it’s not guaranteed. RAM is preferable since Optane isn’t actual memory; it’s just a high-speed cache.
