Sure, you can try converting your Windows 8.1 64-bit version to a 32-bit version. There are tools available that allow this upgrade without needing to use the original disk. Just make sure you have the right software installed and follow the steps carefully.

You cannot downgrade; a new installation is required.

Now why would you do that? There's no longer any benefit to a 32-bit OS these days and the programs are usually compatible... That is unless you have really old hardware that only have the 32-bit drivers...

It’s impossible without reinstalling the operating system. There’s no reason to lower it unless necessary.

Many applications built for 32-bit can function on an x64 system, but switching to 32-bit restricts you to 4GB of memory, leaving the rest unused since they can't be addressed. A complete reinstall would be necessary, which goes against the general rules of this discussion.

It seems similar to Windows 7 would come with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. (Or maybe they list them online these days). Why would that be, I wonder. Want to downgrade?

A 32-bit application may run on a 64-bit operating system, though not all 64-bit programs are compatible with 32-bit systems.
