Your socket is LGA 775, so you can upgrade to a Core Max processor. Adding RAM will definitely help, especially for gaming. An SSD will boost performance too. Since your case is an SFF, a GPU isn’t likely to fit. Your setup seems well-suited for gaming with some office tasks.

You're looking to make only the necessary improvements for casual play in CSGO.

You have options: 1. Improve your setup to its highest capacity (which might surprise you...) 2. Create a fresh system for roughly the same budget... I’d pick option 2... We’re considering around $350 U.S. for something just adequate.

I could switch to a Q6600 for around $20, add 8GB RAM for $30, and the GPU would cost about $100, bringing the total to roughly $150. Upgrading to a new system with an i52400 chipset and an RX 460 chipset with 8GB RAM would be about $250.

It seems that you know what you want... Just an advise... If you are gonna spend money, make it worth it. Get something newer, upgradeable in other words. Go with a rx 460/gtx 1050ti, an i3 6100, 100 series mobo and ddr4 ram... Trust me, you won't regret it

Essentially what you just mentioned isn't an upgrade—it's essentially a brand-new PC. The case would likely cost around $250 for an overpriced processor.

No, but 2gb for a 64bit system is the sweet spot. You'd still benefit from newer components. An iGPU from any CPU after Haswell will outperform anything onboard you currently have. You don't need to buy new gear; older hardware with just a few generations left (like Devils Canyon) could work. It'll cost more than just swapping to the Q6600 and adding RAM, but it will also extend its lifespan.
