It seems the 3600 model costs the same as the 2700, so the extra 6 cores should be sufficient for some time. The new design also offers better performance over the older 2000 series and uses less power.

8 processing units will feature noticeably longer arms compared to 6 cores. The next gaming systems will run on 8 cores, which is a key factor to consider because many titles will be adapted. Microsoft is aggressively advancing its Xbox Game Pass offering, making hardware performance crucial this autumn. They’ve secured two agreements—one offering a month of Game Pass for $1 and another for three months at the same price. Additionally, they’re distributing $5 gift cards to subscribers on their mailing lists. That’s how companies operate.

I own the 3950x and most games I've played run on 4-8 cores. If your machine has a 6-core processor with hyper-threading, it should work. For best performance, opt for an 8-core setup unless you're on a budget version like the 3600x, which is preferable over the 2700x.

You’d pick 2700x for core count, but consider clock speed and upcoming architecture. Wait for an 8-core release to truly benefit from higher cores, especially with newer series.
