Hello, you're thinking about improving your old CPU (i5-4670k) for two reasons: the new Microsoft Flight Simulator is putting it under pressure, and you'll be getting a VR headset soon. You're leaning toward the RTX 3070 or 3080, both expected in September, but still have the older chip. You're weighing the i7 9700K against the 3700X, noting the latter is more affordable, while also keeping in mind AMD's upcoming 4000 series. What are your thoughts? Would it be worth holding off a bit for better performance? You'd like to jump into VR as soon as possible, but you're open to waiting if the upgrade makes a noticeable difference.

I think it's better to hold off a bit. You could quickly grab the GPU and other components, but the upgrade from the 2000 to 3000 series AMD chips really did make a big difference, so I’d probably wait.

Try to hold off until Zen 3 arrives and see what it brings, while you're also waiting on the ampere and big navi.

Hold off on upgrading to Zen 3 unless your setup needs it
