They back more in practice... Official backing usually depends on what's accessible at release, similar to AM4 Ryzen support up to 128GB, since only 32GB DIMMs existed. In theory, it might handle more if larger-capacity DIMMs had been available before DDR5 became dominant

I’m losing track because I haven’t used the 5960x recently and there’s been a RAM swap afterward... Yet I think the chip is still there. I’ll look into it and if it matches the current RAM I have, I’ll share the serial number.

I'll be here in about an hour, then we can look for some thermal paste.

Eventually the rig may be repurposed as an inefficient server in the future.

Absolutely, that's what worries me. Buying rams seems to rely heavily on luck during the draw process. I searched online, but most similar setups use 16GB dimms instead of 32GB, since the latter are mostly shared 7 or 8 years ago. In my country (Malaysia), in-store purchases with return options are extremely limited. Even getting a refund is tough here. Still, I found someone sharing how they managed 128GB RAM on the same chip and board—though that was with a 16GB configuration. Thanks for going the extra mile!

It worked well for me over the last nine years, but it might be a loss if I don’t find a way to repurpose it once I get a new system.

I just checked every aspect of this memory thoroughly, and everything functioned perfectly, even the RDIMM specifications for the RAM.

The two LPX modules are the primary storage units used for data and power management in the system.

They are merely a standard 2x8GB storage unit

In short: RDIMMs seem to function properly on 5th gen i7s with 32GB DIMMs, supporting configurations like 4x4GB, 2x8GB, 4x8GB, and 4x32GB. All tested as expected. @Hawkk.tkr hope this assists.
