5800X's placement isn't ideal. It offers little improvement over the 5600X, and the difference from the 5900X is significant. Still, I recommend the 5800X since gaming is likely shifting to an 8-core setup soon. Most new cross-platform games will need more cores, or at least perform better with them due to upcoming consoles. Buying a 6-core CPU now might lock you into needing upgrades sooner than expected. I believe the 5600X should fade away or be limited to productivity use, while the 5800X deserves a spot in the lineup. If it happens (it probably will), it would be well-positioned and a solid value.
I understand. The 5600x remains a solid option for budget builders, though if you're willing to spend more, a 5800x or even a 5900x would be better choices. I didn't choose the 5800x because it was about $200 more than the 10700k at that time, and I was using a 3070 instead of a 3080. This was before the 11th generation was released.
You can purchase a 5800x model for $423 right now on Amazon. I also spotted them on sale at Microcenter a few weeks back for $369. Compared to those prices, they seem quite reasonable versus the 5600x or the 10850k options. The strong case for the 10700F is that it offers nearly $160 less while still delivering most of the performance needed just for gaming.
