5900X Infinity Fabric operating at 2000MHz!
Just sharing for whoever is interested.. The combination I'm using is a complete beast and I love it! I have a B550 Gaming Carbon paired with a 5900X and 3080 FTW3. Using a cheap Cooler Master 240mm AIO, for now (sold my water cooled setup to buy everything). I'm running Crucial Ballistix RGB 3600 C16 (16-18-18-38) micron E die and after a bit of tweaking I can run them at 4000MHz 16-18-18-18-36 2t which results in 2000MHz Infinity Fabric. I'm getting ~55ns on AIDA64 and 8400-8800 r20 multi and 630-644 single. I am manually adjusting the frequency, timings and FCLK. I also heard they're working on either a BIOS/agesa update to improve stability for higher Infinity Fabric/Memory.. Also, on the MSI (if you have their motherboard), set PBO to 'Enhance Level 1' or set it to 'Advanced' and use your own settings. Level 4 is the slowest and Auto is garbage. I can get 800 more points in r20 by doing this. I'm pretty sure my 5900X boosts over 5GHz with PBO. Hard to tell. Manual OC, again, isn't worth it. Might gain a few hundred points in r20 but you'll lose single core speed, even at all core 4.8GHz. Pretty awesome stuff! Let me know if you want to see something specific or have any questions!
I wish I had the funds for a 5000 series... but honestly, I don’t think upgrading is necessary. So maybe my lack of money is actually a plus, preventing me from making impulsive purchases? I’d really appreciate it if you could consider trying at least one overclocked CCX 5 GHz model, though I understand if you’re unsure about the cooler concerns.
I sold my previous setup to make room for this purchase. I moved from that configuration to this one. Regarding the 5GHz band, it won't function properly. It doesn't work on any CCX, not all cores, and SMT must be enabled. I can access Windows but it crashes when launching r20. The performance scores are around 4.8 on one CCX and 4.7 on the other, offering better multi-core support but losing single-core performance (still above 600, which isn't a major issue).
Confirm your compatibility with DDR4-4000 and explore other speeds like DDR4-4100 or DDR4-4200.
I'm currently using 2000MHz. I experimented with 4200MHz at a 1:1 ratio and it would boot and run Windows but would crash soon after. Now I'm considering 4100MHz as a compromise. Also, thank you for the RAM advice earlier—probably the 4x8GB configuration would have worked too! Yes, I'm testing higher now, though 4200MHz 1:1 won't last long. They seem to be working on a BIOS update for better stability. I've heard someone with a powerful motherboard achieve 4200MHz 14-14-14-32 in 1:1 with IF (if that's correct). Latency in Aida64 is really high!
What model of motherboard are you using? The same memory configuration usually leads to comparable performance. Your choice might matter slightly, but the results should remain fairly consistent. Right now I’m running 1.44v DRAM voltage, but I plan to adjust it later after tweaking other settings. For MSI BIOS, I ran Memory Try It and selected the 3800MHz 18-18-18-38 profile, then increased frequency to 4000MHz and IF to 2000MHz while keeping the ratio at 1:1. After that, I switched primary timings to 16-18-16-16-36 without altering sub-timings. If you adjust sub-timings, do so after changing frequency, IF, primary timings, and voltage to ensure a successful Windows boot. This can be tricky—incorrect settings or repeated changes may cause issues. Sometimes fine adjustments yield better results. I experimented with sub-timings and it helped, though I haven’t confirmed long-term stability. I used the DRAM calculator for guidance; it doesn’t support 4000MHz directly, so I set it to 3800MHz and followed its recommended timings.
