I've faced this problem for several months. The CPU runs at 0.52 GHz and claims it's using 225 watts, which seems inconsistent. Resetting the BIOS to defaults fixes it briefly but doesn't solve the core issue. The system hangs and struggles during use. I'm using the latest Asus BIOS, temperatures stay under 75°C even while gaming, thanks to a custom cooling loop with two radiators. Despite not overclocking, the problem persists. Recent BIOS updates only changed XMP to 3600MHz and disabled fTPM. I'm unsure what to do next and feel stuck. Any advice would be invaluable. I've considered selling everything and rebuilding the system.

I’m checking several devices to track their performance. The system reports a 225W power consumption yet stays below 75°C and operates at around 0.52GHz. This suggests at least one of the readings is inaccurate, and there are many tools that struggle to properly measure AMD clock speeds, temperatures, or power usage. A 5900X model drawing over 200W would typically be in the high 80s even with custom water cooling, requiring very high current levels to reach that output. Just because a BIOS update is newer doesn’t guarantee improvement; sometimes newer versions can perform worse than older ones. For example, my X570 Master (BIOS around F35) wouldn’t boot at 3600 CL14, but it could run more aggressive memory settings with both older and newer BIOS versions. It might be worth reverting to an older BIOS if the issue isn’t caused by the monitoring software.

This seems to indicate a problem with your motherboard's VRM. Reach out to ASUS to request an RMA.

Does this relate to the power reporting issue? This board is built for intense overclocking. I checked the discussion yesterday and didn’t find any advice beyond returning it for repair.

I’ve tried boards built for high overclocking (I have a few XOC models to compare), but none perform poorly in this regard. It seems the issue is likely with the VRM controller itself, making the board unreliable, and it probably needs replacement.

Sure, I didn't realize that. Are you doing it just because it's fun? Also, are chipset drivers important because they handle power components? You mentioned you updated your chipset drivers recently and noticed something about AMD's CPU power solutions.

I occasionally handle used hardware sales and purchases, mainly swapping out systems. Having a backup board for each platform is helpful for diagnosing issues. XOC boards are popular test rigs for many reasons, which is why I was looking for them. I enjoy overclocking them and intend to use some on liquid nitrogen eventually. Power measurements come from the motherboard’s voltage controller, which shouldn’t be influenced by drivers. It’s unlikely ASUS made any unusual changes on that particular board, though it differs from other ASUS models I’ve worked with.

Consider updating the BIOS as a precaution. If that fails, submitting a return merchandise authorization might be necessary. Have you reset the CMOS?

It's exciting! I imagine pursuing similar passions later...after finishing school and building a steady career. That makes sense, especially since my motherboard info shows lower power readings than expected.
