In short, it provides thermal and voltage headroom, enabling PBO2 to run at higher clocks while maintaining slightly better temperatures than the original design. Every chip behaves differently—while I can push 30 on my 5900x, my friends with a 5800x only manage around 10. A helpful video walks through the process well, showing how cores can hit nearly 5.1k cycles and full loads settle between 4.6 to 4.75. I adjusted a few settings afterward, but fine-tuning really comes after getting the undervolts right.

Your 5900X seems limited to a maximum offset of 10, possibly due to current settings. It might improve with an updated BIOS later.

I gradually worked to lower the values until I hit -30 and felt stable—no crashes occurred. I tested games, Blender, and Cinembach. With everything set to default, my CPU ran Blender at 84°C, around 4333MHz across all cores. Now it’s about 66-70°C with 4441MHz while the Corsair H60 fan spins at 3K RPM. Did I just win the lottery?

It might fail unexpectedly, even though it looks fine at first. Sometimes it appears reliable but then stops functioning days later. Still, it seems like you received a solid 5900X to handle the task effectively!

I quit trying, my 5900x would crash randomly at -25, but changing it to -20 didn’t help and gave me worse results in Cinebench than my stock version. It doesn’t make sense to keep adjusting now.
