Hey, I saw that listing on a UK site and it looks like a 5820k is around £68. It makes me a bit nervous about it being fake, but the place seems trustworthy and has a big presence here. Since it’s only available at one store for that price and might sell out quickly, you might want to suggest picking it up rather than waiting.

From a performance standpoint, this price looks reasonable. Since the Ryzen 5 1600 (similar performance) typically sells for about that amount (up to 100 GBP) used, it matches expectations. AM4 boards are generally much cheaper than X99 boards. I don’t know if it’s a scam.

This used 5820k offers a reasonable value given its position as the lowest CPU in that category. Many buyers opt for more recent models, but the market remains abundant. On ebay.co.uk prices typically range from £60 to £100. Pairing it with an affordable motherboard can make it still appealing compared to newer chips.

The main concern seems to be finding the right CPU for the situation. Right now, the 1600 costs £85, while the 2600 is £110. Since the person mainly wants to play Six Siege at a reasonable FPS without spending much, a 1600 with a solid AM4 card would likely be the best choice.

It will surpass the 1600, whether stock or boosted. A 2600 could edge ahead in stock but might fall short overclocked. That’s the main consideration for whether a 5820k makes sense. There are affordable Chinese boards to think about. This reflects today’s market worth.

Consider overall system budget first, then design a well-rounded setup. Choosing AM4 ensures a solid path for future CPU upgrades.

Most tests don’t highlight overclocked results, but performance seems to vary based on CPU usage patterns. Some titles show almost no change, while others notice differences. I referenced a review here: https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/am...eview.html, which excludes the 5820K but includes the 5960X. What I meant by not being scammed was that I wasn’t sure which store was being discussed. The cost might be average, but I’m unclear about the retailer. It really depends on the motherboard options available. The i7 should likely perform slightly better in that game. https://www.techspot.com/review/1505-int...page5.html

She mentioned it wouldn’t exceed £1000, so likely aiming for a minimal budget. Based on that, I’d probably plan around £500.

These prices seem reasonable based on the details provided. The 1600x at £90 appears competitive, while the 8400 at £115 is a bit higher but still within a fair range. I’d lean toward choosing the 1600x.

The 8400 offers better frame rates in that specific game thanks to its stronger single-core performance. Looking ahead, increasing the thread count might also make a difference. It’s worth investigating whether a 7700(K) is reasonably priced as well.
