5800x3d vs 5950x
5800x3d vs 5950x
Hey everyone, I'm thinking about upgrading my B450-based PC soon (it has a Ryzen 7 2700 and 4x8 3000MHz RAM). I'm mainly using it for gaming at 4K with 60Hz, and eventually I hope to have an RTX 7900 XT. I know the X3D lineup is praised for gaming, but I'm curious—would it really matter at 4K (especially 60Hz)? I think the biggest difference would be in Civilization VI turn times, but even then, I'm unsure if reducing the core count by half is worth it. Since I can't find clear benchmarks, it's a bit of a guess. Side note: locally, the 5800X3D is around 300 euros and the 5950X about 340 euros, so either option seems fair. Thanks in advance for your help!
I have a Dark Rock Pro 3 and I don’t think I need a new cooler. There’s no clear reason to upgrade it, but that’s the main point. Regarding idle power usage and the Ryzen 5000—could you check if you’ve found any details elsewhere?
I’ve checked many reviews, but I’m not aiming for high frame rates—most focus on that, which is why I’m asking.
When focused on gaming, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D offers improved performance now and in the near future. Titles originally built for consoles tend to be limited by console architecture, usually capped at eight cores with SMT, and only seven cores are typically usable by games. Although certain titles can scale beyond eight cores, few today can effectively utilize sixteen cores to surpass the 5800X3D’s cache advantages. The main benefit of the 5950X lies in its higher boost frequency, which can give an edge in frequency-sensitive titles. Expect potential improvements from next-gen consoles like the PS6 and Xbox, but upgrades may still be necessary. Even then, results aren’t assured, as the 3D V-Cache provides strong performance gains. If smoothness matters most, the 5800X3D generally delivers more consistent frame times.
You're asking about performance details and specific metrics. The focus is on gaming experience, power consumption, and comparisons. It seems you're interested in technical aspects like FPS, low-end performance, and efficiency.
