Hey everyone, I’m still figuring it out. It seems the 5800x tends to get much hotter in tests, even though both chips have the same power consumption rating and the 5900x has more cores. That’s puzzling since their thermal performance should be similar. Could there be something about the design or packaging that affects heat output?

Silicon comes in various grades. I think they chose the higher grade for the 5900x, which allowed adding two extra cores at cooler temperatures.
