I wouldn't suggest anyone opt for anything below top-tier air for a stock 5800X and switch to premium AIOs just for overclocking. (EK is the best value for money, consistently ranking among the highest performers.) Going custom loop can be a good alternative. Starting from a 2700X was quite surprising given how powerful these units become.
I favor straightforward air cooling. My 5900x uses the Noctua D15 and it maintains stable temps without any pressure. For my 3700x I switched to the Vetroo V5, but it didn’t meet my needs so I chose the D15. It’s larger though. On a 5800x, the Noctua U12s seem ideal, but if you’re certain temps won’t be a problem the D15 should handle it perfectly.
The 5900x offers better cooling performance compared to the 5800x. Its design allows it to dissipate heat more efficiently, making it simpler to manage thermal transfer from the chip to the heatsink and then to the cooler sinks. The 5800x, while technically cooler due to lower overall heat output, struggles more with heat dissipation because of its smaller thermal footprint.
