I've been working on getting my new PC connected and the 5800x gets quite hot—up to 82 degrees in a cinebench with an NH-D15. I followed the PBO2 undervolting guide and tried it, but the temperatures stayed high. The scores on d20 and r23 only improved slightly, yet the heat remained in the low 80s. Did I miss something? I also checked the CPU quality with CTR 2.0 and got a gold grade, but I’m not sure what that means. Am I doing things incorrectly?
I've been testing these settings on my air-cooled 5800x (dark rock 4) for about four weeks. Kept it idle at around 30°C, and pushed it to 75°C under full load after a short warm-up (about 20-30 minutes). Once it stabilized, the room stayed steady at about 21°C. The case is an older Zalman model—probably over a decade old—and it even has a FireWire 400 port at the front, with solid cable management. I don’t mind the look or the RGB; it’s just functional. The front panel lets air in easily, the hood has a quiet slow fan, the back has a standard fan, and the side panel needed some dust filters depending on airflow. Overall, it’s a pretty open design with good ventilation.
