Still heavily focused on planning (need more funds & components first) and possibly falling into the 'newbie' mindset for evaluating ideas. Back then, AMD CPUs with an X label were considered performance boosters meant for X-x70 boards, whereas non-X models were seen as more standard for B-x50 or lower chipsets. The 5000-series all carry an X designation now, suggesting little reason to stick with B-chipsets previously. Now, assuming AM4 will drive up demand, is there any hidden logic I’m overlooking that makes a 5800X paired with a B550 seem ideal? For instance, is there still some exclusivity to the X570 that the B550 can’t use? Following this line of thought, some might argue my X470 is misplaced on a 3600 and a B450 would have worked fine—but why do we end up making these final decisions? "Why switch from a 3600 & X470?" Because I want to know what your setup lacks compared to what you’re aiming for. Nothing specific about needing eight cores where six suffice—I’m not sure if I truly need six, but I definitely want to move up to the next generation of CPUs. Yes, this could mean we’re starting over once AM5 arrives, though that’s still uncertain.
