5800k overclock with A88X mobo
I've been checking the internet for similar setups to see what I can achieve. From what I see, my performance is around 4.5ghz. However, with 1.5v it feels like a problem. Every time I shut down the computer, the other two cores only reach 1.3ghz. They mentioned the motherboard had an issue because it has a 4+2 phase delivery and a 5800k at 4.5ghz should require an 8+2 phase setup. I've tried to slow it down gradually, but the score on Cinebench doesn't improve much—just a single digit increase. Is anyone able to help me get my 5800k up to 4.5ghz or at least above 4.2ghz?
your score seems to be staying the same because the board is limiting performance from high MOSFET and VRAM temperatures. Consider lowering the Vcore and using a logging tool to check CPU speed during load conditions to ensure stability. Adjusting voltage from +0.130v to +0.0123v brings the clock back to normal, but it reverts when power is off. Currently you're running at 4.4Ghz @1.45V with two cores underclocked to 1.3GHz; in Cinebench, 4.5Ghz scored 303 points versus 230 for the default. A 4.0Ghz run scored 311 points. I don’t recall the exact Vcore setting, but it appears the 4.0Ghz setting gives the best result. They mentioned AMD overdrive causing underclocking when booting, but you’ve removed it. How much can you push the Vcore further?
I'd suggest 1.45v as the maximum. The chip might manage up to 1.50v, though the motherboard likely won't be able to provide it consistently and precisely.
It didn't function properly. I used vcore +102v from the default 1.337v, which raised it to 1.43v at 4.2Ghz. Even after the computer shut down and restarted, it continued underclocking to 1.3Ghz. I disabled all other voltage settings such as turbo core, cool&quite, APM, C6, but it still affected the performance. I'm unsure if any of these adjustments caused this issue.
have you looked into your windows power configurations? there might be an issue with processor control leading to throttling.
