Hello everyone, I'm comparing a 5700X and a 5800X3D. While the 3D offers better performance, it's $120 more than the 5700X. Does that increase justify the cost? I also have a 2070 Super with a 1440p display coming from a 3600Hz monitor—does that matter?

If you don’t intend to replace your graphics card soon, the 5700X will perform well. With a 1440p display, you won’t experience the top frame rates that the X3D chip can deliver. However, consider when you plan to upgrade—switching to a 3090 might limit your GPU’s full potential if you wait too long. Upgrading in three years or more could require a significant CPU upgrade anyway.

The 5800X3D stands up against the Ryzen 7000 and Intel 13th gen processors, making it a good value for its price. For other tasks it underperforms compared to a 5700X, so it's not worth the $120 unless you need that performance.

It depends on your budget and how far you want to prepare the system for the future. The 5800X3D is better suited for high-end GPUs in the long run, but if you're content with your 2070 Super at 1440p, either option works well. The added performance isn't justified by the price, though it would be the fastest chip available on AM4 for gaming. ZEN3 should already boost performance by around 20 percent on average.

Probably not worthwhile. The variations you notice apply mainly to certain titles at 1080p using a 4090 chip, just to highlight the outcomes. At 1440p with a decent GPU, those gaps become much smaller. Check real benchmarks for games you actually play in that resolution to judge the actual impact. Another choice is the 5900x if you want to use your system for most tasks—great performance and extra cores improve overall speed. In my view, the 5800x3d seems overly promoted and hasn’t gained much traction in the last six months. Most people felt it wasn’t worth the higher price compared to the 5800x or gave up on the extra cores for the 5900x. When the Ryzen 7000 didn’t meet expectations in benchmarks, the 5800x3d stood out a bit more. Still, it remains overhyped with results that seem exaggerated.

Thank you for the feedback. It seems you're evaluating an upgrade based on upcoming AMD card releases, especially the 4070 rival and the 5800X3D option.
