You've been keeping things stable between 65-67, which is solid. When you remove the cap, the core temp reaches about 79°C—higher than what you're comfortable with. The lower reading after switching tabs suggests it's within a normal range.
For gaming, the core temp might not always reflect real-world performance, especially if you're using a cooler. The Ryzen Master shows a slightly lower reading, which could be more accurate. Since both AMD makes these chips, it seems the core temp isn't the main issue here.
If you're just gaming and not doing heavy editing, a standard aftermarket cooler should work fine. Just keep an eye on the temps and consider upgrading if you notice consistent spikes.
Hello! Your 5800 seems to run quite hot, especially under load. It looks like the stock cooling might not be sufficient for this CPU model. From what I understand, only a few sensors measure temperatures, so it’s possible only a handful of cores hit high temps. I’m not a specialist, but based on what others have said, it’s normal for some cores to spike during gaming. Generally, temps below 80°C are fine. You’re using HWMonitor for tracking, which is a good choice.
80c is essentially what it's built for (you can check the AMD site). The CPU will run well up to 100c. I suggest you keep the cooler for now. If you're thinking about purchasing, I recommend the Hyper 212—it's affordable and performs well.
Ryzen Master is often seen as a bit off-track. Still, anything under 80 works fine.
Thanks everyone for your responses. I’ll keep the cooler on for now—it looks like 70-73 degrees is fine while gaming. I was a bit concerned coming from an Intel i5 7400 that averages around 50 degrees. Have a great day!
