About a year ago my friend built a budget rig using a 3200g and a B450 DS3H. About a month ago he bought a used 1070 for $250. Now he’s thinking about upgrading to a 5600X. I believe his current motherboard is fine, but what do you think? I’m sure it can handle the new CPU. Case – H510 (he already had one) and cooler – stock cooler.

Yep, just make sure to download new bios because compatibility with ryzen 5000 was added recently. https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B45...rt-dl-bios

The Gigabyte site lists support for the 5600X, but for the B450 chipset it’s likely a BIOS update is needed before it works. Unless the packaging already confirms Ryzen 3000 Ready, there’s a slight chance it functions directly. Your motherboard should accommodate that processor. If you stick with the original cooler, avoid overclocking. Also, $250 for an Intel 1070 chipset is quite reasonable right now.

5600x would definitely work, but given a 1070 and not focusing on CPU-intensive games like MMOs, I think if cost matters, he could find a used 3600 for half the price and still achieve similar outcomes.

He dominates 95% of esports games including CS and Valve, with a budget near 300. He allocates half his earnings to his PC, considering his age and financial choices.

The 5600x works well on that board, though the 1070 might face a bottleneck if we go with 3600. Consider adding more RAM or storage, or saving for future upgrades.

It seems like you're excited about the idea. The 5600x will look great.

He’s talking about a very large screen, possibly a 5600x display. What about his monitor and setup?

It might actually work because the games are currently active.
