the asrock b550m itx/ac 5600x ek loop chip is consistently reaching 96 idle during idle. this occurred while using an aio, and after switching to a loop it performed well under stress tests with temperatures between 50-60°f and rtx 2080 on the same loop. however, the idle jumped suddenly to the low 90s without warning, even when the game was closed. gaming continued at that level for about five minutes before returning to normal, but stress tests didn’t reproduce this behavior. the gpu stayed at stable temps even when the cpu was under heavy load (around 50% utilization), and there were fluctuations in voltage and cpu speeds. looping with a 240mm radius helped, but micro bubbles formed near the cpu block. after replacing the motherboard to an eco model (45w), the issue persisted. i’ve checked several bios settings and configurations, but nothing resolved it. i’m unsure if bios settings or the motherboard’s voltage regulation are the cause, or if the chip itself is faulty. i’ve been dealing with this for over a week without success, and i’m starting to think the problem might reappear soon.
Have you verified the connection between your IHS and cooler? Is there sufficient thermal paste? Did you use any overclocking?
There are several factors that might be affecting your setup. Possible issues include improper mounting pressure, inadequate thermal interface material, poor thermal management, high CPU voltages, and other related components. To better understand the situation, you might want to know: the type of thermal paste used, its age, the radiator model, the exact block model, and the maximum CPU core voltage visible in HWiNFO.
mx4 seems to be from a few months ago, with many similar boards circulating in my cupboard. It appears to be all about the loop, specifically around 240 rads, but I’m not sure if this is related to cooling. It’s strange and a bit prideful, but I’ve seen this issue with both AIO and watercooling setups. I’ve been using watercooling for a long time, even going as low as -40°C with neoprene or silicone-sprayed heat spreaders. Voltage levels have varied a lot—sometimes around 0.9V idle at 96°C, with speed set to 4.5 and voltage at 1.2. I ran it in eco mode at 45W, but it pulled 61W through the CPU. After focusing on cooling, I think the problem lies with the motherboard itself. The GPU on the same loop didn’t show any heat issues, which supports my belief that the loop is fine. My chip worked well on a previous board, so I’m confident it’s the hardware that needs fixing. I’m considering swapping chips between boards, but I only have a 3700x and an A320M. Luckily, both options are supported.

Try the chip on another board to see if the problem persists. If it remains, the CPU might be the issue. However, if it resolves on its own, the motherboard could be the cause. Be aware that with an A320 board, the CPU might throttle because of low-quality VRMs.
5K series AMD chips are made to be running around 90C's(With the 5600x, 5700x, and 5800x variants often going above the suggested limits and thermal throttling at 95 to 97C's if torture testing. And yes there is actually a different core design with the 5900x and the 5950x that allows them to be a lot cooler than their cheaper cousins) If you want to try and mitigate the clear heat based bottle neck the only real hope is to increase the AIO size(360 or larger is suggested.) and or custom water tube cool the CPU. Ideally I've found it takes using either a huge custom loop or a massive AIO. If your gonna chase OC'ing and or torture testing AMD 5600 to 5800 cpu's. Their designs just are naturally designed to reach crazy high temps. (You just need a really huge cooler to tame the heat.)
