5600G or 5600x
Hello everyone, With the holidays approaching I thought it was a good time to upgrade my system. But I'm still weighing my options. I’d like a 5600x, though the 5600g is available for around $85 less. Many reviews say the 5600x performs better than the 5600g, but only slightly—about 5-10%. Is that extra speed worth the higher cost? Thanks!
I own a 5600x, it's definitely a solid choice, but if I could choose between getting a 5600g for $85 and also an iGPU, I’d go with the latter.
In addition to the "raw performance", you also receive a PCI-E 3.0 x8 connection for the video card slot, rather than the PCI-E 4.0 x16 option. If you plan to upgrade later to a dedicated graphics card, this could limit speed due to the reduced bandwidth of the PCI-E slot (fewer lanes and an older design). In fact, PCI-E 3.0 x8 offers about a quarter of the bandwidth compared to PCI-E 4.0 x16. Also, the 5600G comes with a "stealth" cooler model, whereas the 5600X uses a Wraith version. The stealth cooler is smaller and sufficient for the 5600G, but it has limited capacity, so you shouldn't attempt to overclock it. The Wraith cooler in the 5600X works better. If you don’t already have a graphics card, the 5600G is clearly the superior pick over the 5600X.
Is it really just eight lanes available for the GPU slot? Do you think it might actually be sixteen?
Do you require an iGPU? The 5600G offers similar CPU performance to a 3600. For budget-focused choices, the 3600 provides better value unless iGPU is essential. If you want top performance, go with the 5600X. Need iGPU? 5600G for savings? 3600 for performance? 5600X
