Hello, I’m considering a PC upgrade. You have a 1600x motherboard and a B450 motherboard slot. You’re thinking about moving to a 5600x, but Best Buy has the 5700x for the same price. Would it be worthwhile to upgrade to an 8-core processor with a slower clock speed? It’s not ideal, but your current setup is mainly for Sims 4 and light home tasks. Your wife wants to play Cities Skylines 2 eventually. I know the game isn’t fully optimized yet, so you’ll likely need to upgrade your 1070 before that. The CPU looks like a good starting point for your upgrade journey.

When the price matches, I'm in favor of 5700x.

The 5700X tends to perform better even with slower clock speeds. If your cooling system can manage it, using PBO can help it reach its full potential and may allow it to run faster than the 5600X.

I own a vintage Corsair 240 AIO. Likely around six years old… and what’s up? I assembled a PC and kept the overclocking limited to just boosting memory performance.

It seems the cooler might not be working well. If I replace it, I’d prefer an air-cooled option instead.

The issue mainly stems from the cooler's age. It's been out of warranty for a while, and we don't know its condition. The fluid can't be replaced either.

Still no problems reported, but if I upgrade the CPU, I might skip the air cooler and just call it a day.

My setup is a 5600X, and it performs quite well. It handles cooling nicely and can go up to 4800. It doesn’t have an 8-core configuration.

I placed the 5700x and just wanted to mention this is my initial experience with the forum—your team is much more supportive than Reddit. Thanks, Edited November 20, 2023 by Mrad87
