I’d pick up the Tomahawk for its solid build and strong VRM cooling. The Elite V2 (rev. 1.1) is also performing well. I discovered yesterday that any revision of the Elite V2 older than 1.1 includes a similar feature to Asus Armoury Crate—basically a hidden backdoor. Here’s the list of affected models with this backdoor: https://eclypsium.com/wp-content/uploads...Models.pdf
You're considering similar prices for a good B650 board and are weighing the cost of AM4 versus AM5 motherboards.
Yes, updated AMD processors and chipsets are available now. Would it be better to upgrade instead of waiting?
I just added a gigabyte to my server, working around the clock. It works great.
Actually, the newer options aren't significantly better—they're just pricier. For over six months, the 7000s remain the best choice.
The latest chips offer improved efficiency and can be boosted for enhanced performance over the 7 series. Cost considerations also play a role, allowing you to choose what suits you best. Regardless of the approach, 7800x3d remains the top choice.
They don't offer much extra efficiency—they're stuck in Eco mode stock. Their performance is pretty similar to a 7000 chip running in Eco mode, with only about a 5% gain. Otoh prices are roughly 30% higher, making it not a great deal right now.
I notice bigger improvements, though the price is very high. The hardware boxed a second review video. It’s a superior chip, but pricier. Choose what suits you.
