Your MacBook Pro has limited space, and the extra storage is consuming it quickly. After cleaning up, you still have about 55GB left, but it’s filling up fast. To free up space, consider removing unused files, clearing temporary data, or deleting old documents. If needed, you can use disk cleanup tools or move large files to external drives.

The system identifies every file unless it's already categorized under another type. For instance, an .iso file falls into the 'other' category. Assess the size of your home directory and consider reducing its footprint, such as emptying the downloads folder.

The MacBook is almost empty, I don’t use it often. I’m pretty sure some system files are being grouped differently because when I tried to upgrade to Big Sur, the others kept getting larger, and now I’m not sure how to clear them out.

I also use i cloud, possibly backing up my phone data, but I'm not sure how to verify that.

I regret not being able to assist you, as I haven’t handled this issue before. My devices are outdated and don’t support the latest versions.

In About this Mac, select storage then manage. This displays a summary of storage usage. Adjust as needed.

I completed the scan and detected 26GB of unnecessary files. Because they weren’t free, the cleaning didn’t remove everything. You can remove these items yourself.

When you open manage, there are clearly two gigabytes available to remove. Other options that consume 55 gigabytes cannot be accessed.

It seems the cache was consuming up to 35 GB, but I cleared it and everything is working now.
