I created a fresh list of PC parts while feeling bored, and noticed unusual pricing for RAM at 5k MHz—about $1,000. Was the cost high because of market inflation from the pandemic, or is this memory simply overvalued?

It’s probably set this way because DDR4 5000 is unnecessarily fast, making those who require it spend a lot more.

The highest speed modules will come at a premium as they have to bin the best of the best ram chips to reach those speeds. I tend to stop looking much past 4000 or so, but this is a niche enough product they can probably ask what they want for it as they will sell what few units they have anyway.

As you move toward the premium tier, the price increases for slightly better features. If you're considering this purchase, you likely already have a high-end setup in place.
