It's likely the fans should operate when power is supplied, especially if the start button is pressed.

Are there any other connections? If you press power and it doesn’t work, it might be a short circuit. You mentioned it looked like a BIOS flashback—would removing it from the case and testing it help? Do you have a backup PSU nearby for evaluation?

Fans activate automatically when the motherboard powers up, spinning only when the CPU is detected on the board. This behavior was consistent across all my previous systems. I plan to update the BIOS with a new USB drive and adhere to the official Asus instructions. If this isn't possible, consider using a different motherboard that supports your CPU.

No spare power supply unit. The only connection on the motherboard is the PSU, two RAM modules and two fans linked to the CPU fan header. I've installed the CPU but haven't added a cooler, and it still won't power on when I press the start button. Now I'm considering buying a new CPU, motherboard and PSU just to check which one is the issue, and if I end up buying a console, it'll be cheaper.

Yes, it's possible to test without them linked. I'd also still attempt outside the case if needed.

Brought the setup to a repair shop for checks, but they confirmed both the motherboard and CPU are faulty. With only £510 left on a project I’ve invested two years in, replacing these parts feels impossible.
