Hey everyone, checking if an i5 11400 with a 6600XT works well for 1080@120fps or even 60fps. I’m also curious about how an i5 11600k would perform. We’re targeting 120fps for streaming and recording. It sounds like we’ll need a dedicated PC just for those purposes!
Are you checking if this configuration would suit a standalone streaming PC (with a capture card for recording another machine)? Or are you wondering about the 11400 paired with a 6600XT for streaming at 1080p 120fps? For the first, it's way too much power. A dedicated streaming PC really doesn't require such a strong GPU and doesn't need an i5. An i3 10100 plus a GTX 1650 would work just fine—even then it'd be excessive. For the second setup, performance hinges on your games and settings. If you play competitive titles like Minecraft, CS:GO, or Fortnite, it's perfectly acceptable. At high settings for games such as Cyberpunk, COD:Warzone, or Battlefield 2042, you'll likely need more power. If you plan to stream and record together, think about your streaming method. Using the iGPU for encoding might make sense with a 11500, 11600, or 11600K, as they offer slightly better performance. For CPU-based software encoding, consider an 11700 or aim for a 12th-gen chip with a 12600K, since you'll have multiple cores handling encoding. If you're doing hardware encoding with the GPU, expect about a 5-15% drop in performance.
I’d use an Elgato 4K60 PCIe capture card with the 6600xt available, since it’s easy to set up. Your i9 9900 3070 works well for gaming at 240fps in Fortnite and Warzone, but performance drops when recording. With a spare card and a decent PSU, you can upgrade your CPU and case for better results without breaking the bank.
