I'm using it with you and it's great on a 1080p screen—no reason to upgrade anytime soon. And 4K projectors cost as much as a brand new car, so I can hold off on that.

The issue isn't clear to me. More pixels usually improve quality, but you keep overlooking the differences. 4K isn't inherently worse than lower resolutions—it just pushes the limits of what people expect. Many gamers still play on older cards or use lower settings, regardless of the display size. If consoles aimed for 4K at higher framerates, it wouldn't be surprising they'd offer a 1080p option instead. The point isn't that higher resolution games will ruin graphics quality, but that it pushes manufacturers to improve tech like memory bandwidth and compression. Technology naturally becomes more affordable over time. You can already see solid 4K TVs for a reasonable price.

Unless you own a large display, 4k doesn't seem very useful to me. The detail looks good, but the size keeps getting smaller because of the resolution. I favor 1080p over 4k since I don't want my face to be three inches away from the screen.

In gaming, the setup is typically designed with a consistent camera area. Raising the resolution adds more detail, but you'll need to tweak the desktop settings to suit your preferences.
