I'm planning to refresh my office this weekend and came across a question I've been thinking about repeatedly without a clear answer. Should I go with 4K Gaming? If I upgrade, I want everything to look perfect. I was considering swapping out my old monitors. For FHD, I'd purchase two 24-inch units of the same model, but if I switch to 4K, I'd buy one 4K monitor and use my existing 21.5-inch for tasks like surfing or Skype. My current specs are an i7-4790K with 16 GB RAM, DDR3, and a Zotax GTX 970 AMP! Extreme Core. My monitors: 21.5" FHD and 19". I play games like CS, WoW, BF4, Rainbow Six Siege (sometimes), and eventually want to play Fortnite. Benchmarks suggest I can run 4K smoothly at higher ultra settings—sometimes even above 30 FPS. I’m curious if it’s worth sticking with FHD for another couple of generations before jumping to 4K. I’d rather avoid spending around €1,000 on a new GPU just to get the best visuals possible. What do you think? This seems like a topic many people discuss, but I haven’t found much helpful advice yet.

You'll need to significantly reduce the settings for a 970. It's not recommended to go to 4K unless your GPU is upgraded (then it will be great!).

It really depends on the game; I have a 290x that’s close to 970 in performance, though it’s not perfect. For 40-50 FPS, I’m satisfied, but if you want 60 FPS+, you’ll need something faster like a 980 Ti.

To enjoy 4K gameplay, the system needs at least 980 resolution.

4k on a 970 is not worth it; that card works better for 1080p high or 1440p medium. I’d rather have a 1440p at 144hz than settle for 4k because of scaling problems and other issues.

Absolutely, 144hz at 1440p appears significantly improved compared to 4K.

It's true, 4K offers excellent clarity, but performance remains challenging. Smooth 144Hz is still out of reach for most devices right now. While high refresh rates sound great, they’re not yet widely available in current displays.

Only on Windows, the games work well.

May encounter problems in games like Steam overlays and other similar platforms as well.
