I was curious about the best option. I've watched videos from GN, Hardware Unboxed and Jay that suggest using four sticks boosts performance compared to two. The price gap is around $40 AUD ($30 USD), with the 2x16GB set being more affordable. It's unclear if the performance gain justifies the extra cost. Any advice would be appreciated.
2x16 offers superior performance over 4x8. It provides better stability, manages XMP settings more effectively, and requires less memory controller load on the CPU.
That might be true for every other CPU but there IS a difference between 4 and 2 on Zen 3 specifically, i.e So I just wanna know if the price difference is worth the jump in price. Even if its worth going from 3600 to 3200
Interleaving 2x16 only makes sense if they're dual-rank sticks. You can combine two SR sticks to act like four, but you need to adjust the system significantly to achieve good performance. This isn't even considering 3D yet. Is the benefit worth it? If you have the budget, it might be worth it; otherwise, it depends. It's not a huge improvement, but it does make a difference. For those focused on overclocking, adding four sticks is much more challenging and can reduce your limits.
The video highlights an 8-10% boost in performance under specific conditions. I'm curious if others have observed similar improvements when upgrading from 2 to 4.
It's clear but investing the funds elsewhere could be more beneficial. Since I already received the money, saving $40 for a better monitor might be a smarter choice.
I understand your perspective. I haven't really explored 3D settings deeply, but what Steve demonstrated in his video really resonated with me. It was that particular clip that motivated me in November to purchase four sticks. At first, I bought my Royals, but after watching the video, I realized they were sold out, so I had to go with Black and Whites. Eventually, I still have a 4x8 3200c14 and am quite content with it. I’d be even happier if I could run all four at 2k 1:1, though I’m not very experienced.
Consider switching to a higher-quality monitor. Mine had issues with colored vertical lines appearing during startup, which is frustrating. Thanks for the advice! You too @narrdarr
