That's what I was doing when I was experimenting with non-k OC. The main thing was making sure the tracking matched the real core temperature closely.
jasonhickman17 is right. HWinfo64 is perfect for keeping an eye on CPU temperature during tests.

That was the same issue I faced before, but now I've upgraded to a 6700k, which allows me to overclock without the same concerns as non-K overclocking. The key point is that with the 6700k, it appears the package temperature reflects the hottest core, though I'm not sure about that yet.

A new announcement about ASRock Hyper-OC motherboards being released for H170, B150, and H110 chipsets. The older BCLK OC model remains popular.
