48 gigabytes of DDR4 memory operating at 2400 MHz or 32 gigabytes at 3200 MHz?
Hey everyone, I’m just checking in to see how everyone is doing and staying safe. I recently upgraded my system with a 32GB DDR4 RAM kit that operates at 3200MHz, but currently I have two 8GB sticks running at 2400MHz. The main question is whether I should keep the existing 16GB, add the extra 32GB and run everything at 2400MHz for a total of 48GB, or go with the 32GB upgrade and stick with 3200MHz. I’m using a Ryzen 2700X on an ASRock B450 PRO4 and mainly play games, but also work with SolidWorks, Labview, Photoshop, Chrome tabs, and occasional video editing. Let me know what you think!
Ensure your PC has at least 32GB RAM for optimal performance. If you require more than 32GB, opt for the 48GB choice. For those who don’t need additional memory, select the 32GB with a 3200 MHz speed.
first of all, zen+ might not be able to do 3200MHz on 16gb dimms maybe 3000 is a safer option but if the prices arent too different then sure, you can manually downclock and tighten the timing if it doesnt run at 3200 as for your question, answered it pretty well because hitting pagefile sucks more than slow RAM some, though it may not be too obvious mixing and matching RAM may not work though, so there's a possibility that it wont even boot with the 48gb config. but it should be fine
That's a good point, I didn't even consider if my cpu supports 3200mhz >.> Fortunately for me, the kit that I bought is just 4$ more than the kit that runs at 3000 I'll probably try to run 48gb config first and see if it's even stable because I definitely need those two extra chrome tabs open.
