4080 drivers led to freezing issues; functionality limited to x8 and PCIe mode x8
Hey there, I just completed a fresh build using a 4080 Super Founders edition and a Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Pro X. Everything functioned smoothly until I installed the NVIDIA drivers—then the PC became unresponsive to keyboard and mouse input, forcing a reboot. I managed to log in but after roughly five seconds it failed again. The only workaround that worked was enabling 8x8 on the PCIe slot via BIOS, though I definitely don’t want to do that. I checked a similar forum post but didn’t find a proper fix. Currently I’ve updated the BIOS, tried both driver versions for the 4080 Super, enabled native ASPM, used multiple displays without a riser, and confirmed the GPU connects directly to the top PCIe 5.0x16 slot. I’m considering swapping the motherboard for a ROG Strix Gaming A WiFi II—though it won’t recognize my RAM’s RGB, which isn’t a big deal—but it would require a lot of effort. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead!
